It morphologically phylogenetically close to North American T. chrysogramma , which also occurs on shares olive green brown muriform ascospores, but differs latter by geographic distribution, narrower asci, smaller ascospores with fewer septa DNA sequence data seven loci (ITS LSU regions of nu rDNA, ACT1 RPB1 RPB2 TEF1 TUB2 genes). As many other species, ascomata were closely associated Diplodia indicating a fungicolous habit. genus Neothyronectria synonymised based morphological molecular phylogenetic data, combinations citri sophorae are proposed.
